Palestinians in Gaza are facing an unparalleled humanitarian catastrophe as a direct result of Israel’s ongoing indiscriminate bombardment and siege. Israel’s attacks have killed over 36,000 people, including more than 15,200 children, destroyed thousands of homes, and displaced over 1.9 million people. 

The tightening of Israel’s siege of Gaza – cutting off supplies of food, medicine, fuel, and aid – represents collective punishment of all 2.2 million people living in Gaza, around half of whom are children. 

As Israeli attacks intensify on Rafah, the humanitarian response is on the verge of collapse. The latest Israeli attacks on a refugee camp near UN aid facilities in Rafah killed dozens of people, including children, and injured many more. 

In southern Gaza, the flow of aid has been completely cut off since Israel began its full invasion on May 6. Announcements of additional crossing points and aid initiatives, including the new ‘floating dock’, have given an illusion of improvement.

On May 24, the ICJ ordered Israel to immediately halt its attack on Rafah and ensure sufficient aid can enter Gaza. ICJ rulings are legally binding but recent rulings on Gaza have been ignored by Israel, and the situation for civilians has become even worse.

We call on the UK to use all its leverage to ensure that the latest ruling is fully implemented without a moment to waste. The ruling’s requirement for aid to reach those in need will only be possible with a ceasefire and an end to Israel’s siege.

The UK must act now to save Palestinian lives.

Demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza

Sign our petition and urge the UK Government to:

  • Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to prioritise the preservation of human life.

  • Demand that Israel immediately ends its complete siege of Gaza and ensures that humanitarian aid safely reaches people in need in accordance with humanitarian principles. Israel must allow safe and unimpeded entry of fuel, water, food, and other humanitarian necessities into Gaza.

  • Demand that all parties comply with international law and demand that Israel takes all measures within its powers to comply with the ICJ ruling in January 2024 to ensure that civilians are protected from harm. All parties must not target civilians or civilian infrastructure and must ensure that civilians have access to basic necessities such as water, food and power. 

  • Immediately reverse its suspension of UNWRA aid funding as the UK government has an urgent responsibility to ensure that Palestinian civilians in Gaza are getting the aid needed now more than ever.
